Record number of applications for the Innovation Award!
A total of 28 applications for the Innovation Award, – which includes a check for NOK 100 000 – has been received by the deadline the 1st of May. This represents a 36% increase from record year 2011.
As many as 13 applications came from countries other than Norway, and some applicants have submitted more than one project each. A change introduced this year is the fact than only companies and individuals are eligible to apply, while in the past research and other institutions were also eligible.
Happy Chairman of the Board
The Chairman of the Board of the Nor-Fishing Foundation, Mrs. Liv Holmefjord, is very happy about the many applications. This confirms that there is a lot of innovation in many countries going on, and this activity will benefit both the award winners and the aquaculture industry as a whole. For the winner, the Award not only means a cash injection, but also increased motivation among employees, and not least a valuable reference that can be used in marketing.
In addition to Norwegian applicants, applications have been received from Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Scotland, Sweden, Tasmania, Germany and the USA.
Stimulating growth in private sector
The reason why the rules have been changed so that only companies and individuals are now eligible for the Award, is that the Nor-Fishing Foundation thus wants to contribute to innovation in the private sector. Research institutions normally have access to funding from the public sector in addition to commercial research assignments.
Presentation at the opening ceremony
The applications will now be reviewed and prepared for a final review by the jury by the end of May. The jury will nominate three candidates for the final, and the Board of the Nor-Fishing Foundation will then make the final decision on the day before Aqua Nor 2017 opens. The Award will be presented to the winner during the opening ceremony of Aqua Nor 2017 on the 15th of August 2017.
